STALEY ACADEMIC LETTERING
Academic preparation and subject matter toward mastery are the primary objectives at Staley High School. The Academic Letter acknowledges and honors students who commit to community service, accept personal ownership for their educational plan, and who maintain high academic achievement. The Academic Letter will act as a symbol for outstanding educational improvement, commitment, and development for those distinguished students. It is meant to encourage and reward students who work hard and give their best effort in our school and to our community.
ACADEMIC LETTERING QUALIFICATIONS
Each candidate:
-Must be a sophomore, junior or senior.
-Must have at LEAST a 3.5 Academic GPA average for the two qualifying semesters; with no grade lower than a B. (January 2025-December 2025)
-Must attend Staley High School for one full semester to be considered for an Academic Letter if they transfer from another school.
-Must be a full-time student.
-Must complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service for each application period (January 2025-March 2026).
-Must have a minimum of 95 percent or better overall attendance during each semester for which they apply.
-All sophomores, juniors and seniors will be e-mailed a link with the Academic Letter application in February 2026.It is due by Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Candidates will be considered based on Service, Ownership, Achievement, and Respect. Staley High School is committed to academic excellence and understands that learning is increased with consistent attendance. Students are also expected to actively participate in community service, as well as demonstrate good citizenship on a daily basis. Any student that has served a suspension for either of the two qualifying semesters will not be eligible for the letter. Students who violate Missouri State High School Activities Association rules pertaining to alcohol/drugs, tobacco, vandalism, violation of the criminal code, hazing, racial/religious/sexual harassment, or violence, will not be eligible for an award.
Sophomores will be eligible after the spring semester of their freshman year and the fall semester of their sophomore year. Juniors will be eligible after the spring semester of their sophomore year and the fall semester of their junior year. Seniors will be eligible after the spring semester of their junior year and the fall semester of their senior year. For example, the award presented in May 2026 will be based upon the 2025 calendar year (spring and fall semesters of 2025).
PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD
-Successful candidates will be notified in April that they will receive an Academic Letter
-Successful candidates will be presented the Academic Letter during Senior Honors Night or pick up their certificate and pin(s) in the Student Support Office at the end of May.
-Academic Letter honorees of more than one year will also be recognized for achievement by attaching an academic year bar to their letter for each year they qualify for the award.
First-year honorees will receive a letter (if they have not already received one in another activity/sport) and a Lamp of Knowledge pin. The second year these qualifications are met, students will receive a gold bar. The third-year

*The application must be received by the deadline and students must meet all the Academic Lettering qualifications in order to be eligible.
